I began thinking about my father’s career as a documentary since the day that he father retired from 37 years of working for the Nassau County Police department as a street cop, undercover officer in the Narcotics Bureau and as a homicide detective. Spending the day with my father on that last day of work, we drove around the old neighborhoods that he worked in for nearly 4 decades. Stories of his career poured out of him as he shared his feelings about retiring.
Working as the Director of Photography on feature documentaries such as A Place of Truth and Brewmore, has helped Michael fine-tune methods and techniques needed to explore the dichotomy between the emotions and realness presented in Nassau-Narco.
